The son of an Assembly of God pastor, Dan set out on his own in
his late teens. He spent a number of years in the heart of the
1970’s counterculture movement in Northern California, during
which he studied yoga, Eastern mysticism and various New Age
beliefs. A life crisis in 1983 led to a dramatic conversion
experience at which time he acknowledged Jesus Christ as his
Savior and Lord.
A short time after his marriage to Michele Hathaway in the mid-
1980’s, they were drawn to the beauty and depth of Anglican
liturgy in the Episcopal Church. Dan’s call to the ordained
ministry was first discerned by his priest in coastal Northern
California, and some years later, while they were living in Gallup,
New Mexico, was fully owned by Dan. After degrees from UC
Davis and Sacramento State University, and a career as a family
therapist, Dan matriculated at Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry
in 2000. He was ordained to the priesthood in January of 2004 at
All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Reisterstown, Maryland. In 2007
he was called to be Vicar of Hope Episcopal Church (now Hope in
the Desert), and returned with his family to New Mexico.
Fr. Dan, Michele, and their sons James and Christian now live in
Northwest Albuquerque. Their oldest son, Robb, is presently a
student at the University of Maryland in Baltimore County. In
whatever free time they can secure (Michele is a full-time
homeschooler and a freelance writer and editor), they enjoy
hiking, camping, traveling, and literature. They are usually up for
an adventure, and always up for a quiet evening at home.
